“To say Jana is a natural is an understatement, vigorous at points and softer than dew on a peach the next;
her songs lift off and mesmerize the room before you know it.” -South by Southwest
J A N A  C R E N S H A W  is a singer-songwriter and composer of theater scores, sad piano songs and 3rd Grade Musicals.  She has performed on Broadway, and  has toured throughout the U. S. and Canada, first with avante-garde musical troupe Squonk Opera,  and most recently with her solo material, under the name Jana Losey.  She has had a #1 video on LOGO (MTV), and recently received a Regional Arts and Culture Council project grant for ‘More to the Story’, a musical telling of Portland’s History through a Social Justice lens.

In the lead vocalist role with Squonk for five years, she led the troupe to Broadway with the show BigSmorgasbordWunderWerk, helping the group to win funding from several public and private donors, including Pennsylvania Council On The Arts, The Rockefeller Foundation and The Heinz Endowment. In 2001, she left the group to pursue other projects.
In 2005, she met producer/guitar/bassist Melanie Peters, and together they produced three albums (Bittersweet, Blocks, Bare Bones); a video for the song “5 Days,” which spent ten weeks at #1 on MTV’s LOGO channel; and the TV show The Song You Heard, which aired throughout Pennsylvania and New York.

In 2008, she moved to Portland, Oregon, to compose music and soundscapes for shows at Portland theaters - for Portland Center Stage: Kodachrome, Constellations, Oregon Trail, Vanya, Sonia and Masha and Spike, futura, Small Fire, Chinglish, Other Desert Cities.  For Portland Playhouse: No Candy, Left Hand of Darkness (by Ursula K LeGuin with Hand2Mouth Company).  For Liminal: Our Town.  For Profile Theater: 2.5 Minute Ride, Fires In the Mirror, (Un)Conditional.  For The Fertile Ground Festival: Please Validate Your Identity (cast and composer).

Jana Crenshaw is currently working on releasing new singles, an album of instrumental music, and a collaboration with Hip Hop artist Mic Crenshaw writing and directing More to the Story, an original 3rd Grade Musical presenting Portland’s History through a social justice lens
