KODACHROME - 2018 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Rose Riordan - Co-sound design by Casi Pacilio. Kodachrome is set in a small town where each character is introduced by "The Photographer", who narrates and often oversees the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters. For this show I created a little theme for each character, which can all merge together into one busy little town, or can elegantly separate into duets, trios, quartets.....you'll hear it begin with the photographer's theme.
CONSTELLATIONS - 2017 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Chris Coleman - Co-sound design by Casi Pacilio. Constellations is a love story told through parallel universes....the many possibilities and stories of a relationship laid bare on stage. I wanted a music through line, and was able to achieve it by using all parts and tracks of my dynamic song "Still, Calm, and Warm".
NOTE TO SELF - 2016 - produced and directed by Adrienne Flagg - performed at COHO Theater - composition and sound design by Jana Crenshaw. Note To Self is devised from hundreds of ‘notes to self’, using traditional theatre, poetry, music and dance. Ensemble members ranging in age from 23-80 blend their personal stories into new characters that they play at different stages of life. Each of the 12 performers is paired in a team of two – one older and one younger. Using their personal stories they have created new characters that they will play at different stages of life.
OREGON TRAIL - 2016 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Rode Riordan - Sound Design by Casi Pacilio. Oregon Trail! The video game! Remember? This was a fun play starring a brooding teenager (then adult) who relentlessly plays Oregon Trail, inserting herself into the game's plot and perils. I got to compose a million versions of "Happy Trails" for this.....it was fun.
OTHER DESERT CITIES - 2015 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Timothy Bond - Sound by Casi Pacilio

VANYA, SONIA, and MASHA and SPIKE - 2015 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Rose Riordan - Sound Design by Casi Pacilio. A quirky, romantic comedy with cartoon-like characters. In this piece, we decided to use variations on the same theme to amplify moments in the script.
SMALL FIRE - 2014 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Rose Riordan - Sound Design by Casi Pacilio. Small Fire follows the story of a woman who gradually loses all her senses one by one. I created moments of dissonance with tone clusters, and made the following transitions with a pallet of hand claps, bells, and drones like a hearing test.
CHINGLISH - 2014 - Portland Center Stage - directed by May Adrales - Sound Design by Casi Pacilio. Chinglish was really fun to work on - a really funny story about an overconfident American businessman, and everything that gets lost in translation as he navigates a culture he knows absolutely nothing about. I created the soundscape with the idea of mixing sounds that might be found in traditional Chinese music, mixed with modern beats and accents.
LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS - 2013 - Hand2Mouth Theater in collaboration with Ursula K. LeGuin - Portland Playhouse. I had the wonderful pleasure of composing a soundtrack for this wonderful script which was adapted by Hand2Mouth under the guidance of the fantastic book 'Left Hand of Darkness', written by Ursula K. LeGuin in 1969. I loved writing for science fiction, especially with the depth of this story. I collaborated with Hand2Mouth company member Faith Helma for the melody and harmonies of 'Keep that for Me'. All the sung words come directly from the book....written as songs sung by the people of this interesting world.
FUTURA - 2011 - Portland Center Stage - directed by Kip Fagan - Sound Design by Casi Pacilio. A play that begins with a lecture about the history of futura (yes, the font!), and dissolves into a crazy adventure to find and protect an underground library of books from being openly edited online by all of mankind. I was able to achieve the vibe I wanted using layers of drones, sci-fi rhythms, and bells.
